# Get Payment Refundability

GET https://api.crisscross.money/v1/payment/{transactionId}/refundability

Returns whether a payment can currently be refunded, the remaining refundable amount, and a machine-readable reason when it cannot. Use this as a pre-flight check to render a refund affordance without attempting a refund. Refundability is a pre-flight indication, not a guarantee — the provider remains the final authority at execution time.

## Request

### Path parameters

- `transactionId` (string, required) — Identifier of the payment to check. UUID v7.

## Response

### 200

Refundability retrieved successfully.

- `refundable` (boolean, required) — Whether the payment can currently be refunded. Branch on this field — it determines whether `notRefundableReason` is present.
- `refundableUntil` (datetime, optional) — ISO-8601 instant until which a refund may still be initiated. Unset when the window is unbounded or the payment is not refundable.
- `notRefundableReason` (enum, optional) — Machine-readable reason the payment cannot be refunded. Present exactly when `refundable` is `false`; never present when `refundable` is `true`.
  - Allowed values: `NOT_REFUNDABLE_REASON_NOT_A_PAYMENT`, `NOT_REFUNDABLE_REASON_NOT_COMPLETED`, `NOT_REFUNDABLE_REASON_WINDOW_EXPIRED`, `NOT_REFUNDABLE_REASON_ALREADY_REFUNDED`, `NOT_REFUNDABLE_REASON_REFUND_IN_FLIGHT`, `NOT_REFUNDABLE_REASON_INSUFFICIENT_BALANCE`, `NOT_REFUNDABLE_REASON_UNSUPPORTED`
- `refundableAmount` (RefundValue, optional) — Remaining refundable amount in minor units (original minus prior non-failed refunds).

## Errors

### 401 Unauthorized Error

Unauthorized.

- `message` (string, required) — Human-readable description of what went wrong.
- `error` (string, required) — Error category. Most endpoints return the HTTP reason phrase (e.g. "Bad Request", "Unauthorized", "Conflict", "Unprocessable Entity", "Internal Server Error"). Some return a machine-readable snake_case code instead — notably the FX and rate-lock rejections on checkout session creation and payment initiation, where several distinct codes share a single HTTP status. Where a code is present it is the finer discriminator and is safe to branch on.
- `statusCode` (integer, required) — HTTP status code, mirroring the response header. The response header is the source of truth.

### 404 Not Found Error

Payment not found.

## Types

### RefundValue

- `minorAmount` (integer, required) — Amount in minor units (e.g., cents). For NGN, 10000 = 100.00 NGN.
- `currency` (string, required) — ISO 4217 currency code. Must match the currency of the original transaction.
