# Mozambique Payouts

Use this guide when you want to send MZN payouts to recipients in Mozambique. Mozambique supports **mobile wallets (M-Pesa)**.

## Overview

* **Currency:** MZN
* **Payment location:** `MOZ`
* **Supported rails:** Mobile wallet
* **Payment methods:**
  * Mobile wallet → `paymentMethodId: "mobilemoney"`, `recipient.type: "mobile_money"`

Bank transfers are not currently available for Mozambique.

## Required fields by rail

### Mobile wallet (M-Pesa)

M-Pesa in Mozambique is operated by Vodacom, so the operator code is `vodacom`. The `mpesa` operator code is reserved for Safaricom M-Pesa in Kenya and is not accepted for `MOZ`.

Top-level required fields for every payout: `merchantId`, `merchantReference`, `destinationValue` (with `minorAmount` and `currency`), `paymentMethodId`, `paymentLocation`, `recipient`, `sender` (see [Sender details](#sender-details-required)).

## Sender details (required)

Every payout requires a `sender` object for KYT/KYC screening. `fullName`, `identity`, and `identityNumber` are required; the remaining sender fields are optional but may be required by certain destinations.

## Important notes

* **Operator code**: Always use `operator: "vodacom"` for M-Pesa in Mozambique.
* **Phone number format**: Provide the recipient MSISDN with the `258` country code. Local-format numbers are normalised using `country`; see [Mobile Number Format](/mobile-number-format) for the full contract.
* **Account validation**: Mobile-money account validation is not currently available for Mozambique; see [Verification](/api-reference/payouts/verification) for supported markets.
* **Sandbox**: outcomes are selected by the last two digits of the recipient phone number, the same as in every other market — see [Payout Trigger Endings](/payout-sandbox-testing).
